We’re honored to be part of Saving Senior Dogs Week, a national campaign dedicated to raising awareness and funds for homeless senior dogs across the United States. This year marks the Fourth Annual campaign, running October 24 – 31, 2025, and it continues to grow thanks to the passion and generosity of dog lovers everywhere.
What Is Saving Senior Dogs Week?
Saving Senior Dogs Week was created by Lily’s Legacy Senior Dog Sanctuary in Petaluma, CA, to shine a spotlight on the plight of senior dogs—the most at-risk group in shelters. Senior dogs are often the last to be rescued and the first to be euthanized. Out of the estimated 14,000 rescue groups nationwide, fewer than 40 are dedicated exclusively to senior dogs.
This campaign is more than a fundraiser. It’s about:
Educating the public on the joys of adopting senior dogs.
Building collaboration among senior dog rescues nationwide.
Raising life-saving funds to care for and rehome older dogs.
At the end of each campaign, 75% of the funds raised are divided equally among the participating rescues, with the remaining 25% going into a grant fund to help new senior dog rescues get started.
Why Senior Dogs Need Us
According to the ASPCA, 4.2 million pets are expected to enter poverty due to ongoing economic challenges, many of them senior dogs. Older dogs are often surrendered through no fault of their own and desperately need loving homes or sanctuaries where they can spend their golden years in peace.
Despite the challenges, senior dogs bring so much joy:
They’re calmer and often already trained.
They bond deeply with their caregivers.
They remind us daily of the power of unconditional love.
Moose Lodge Senior Pet Sanctuary’s Role
Here in the Hudson Valley, Moose Lodge Senior Pet Sanctuary is a forever home for senior dogs. Unlike many rescues, Moose Lodge provides hospice-style care—ensuring that every senior dog who comes to us will never have to worry about being abandoned again.
By participating in Saving Senior Dogs Week, we’re joining a national movement that amplifies our mission: to provide comfort, care, and dignity to senior pets until their final days.
We’re Looking for a Sponsor
To make this year’s campaign a success, Moose Lodge is actively seeking a sponsor. Sponsorship helps us cover the cost of veterinary bills, specialized diets, medications, and daily comforts for our residents. In return, sponsors will receive recognition through our events, social media, and community outreach efforts during Saving Senior Dogs Week.
Your partnership would not only help our sanctuary thrive but also contribute to the nationwide effort of saving senior dogs.
How You Can Help
Even if sponsorship isn’t possible, there are many ways to get involved:
Donate directly to Moose Lodge or through the Saving Senior Dogs USA campaign.
Spread the word on social media by sharing posts and encouraging friends to support.
Volunteer or attend events to meet our senior residents and learn about their stories.
Encourage adoption and fostering of senior dogs in your community.
Join the Movement
Saving Senior Dogs Week runs October 24 – 31, 2025, but the mission continues every day of the year. With your support, Moose Lodge and senior dog rescues across the country can continue giving these incredible dogs the second chances they deserve.
